South Carolina Has A State Park Just Right For You

South Carolina boasts 30 state parks – there’s one in every part of the state and they offer everything from great spots for relaxation to intriguing explorations into the state’s history.

Near Greenville, Paris Mountain State Park protects the best of South Carolina’s high country. Here you’ll find great views, some of the state’s best mountain biking, the 13-acre Lake Placid, and hiking trails like the Fire Tower Trail, Kanuga Trail, and Brissy Ridge Trail.

Table Rock State Park near Pickens is the eastern trailhead of the rambling Foothills Trail and has a lodge built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, plus a path to Pinnacle Mountain and great views of Mill Creek Falls.

Close to Chester you’ll find Landsford Canal State Park – the canal was built to bypass rapids on the Catawba River and today you can see the former lock keeper’s house and one of the largest remaining stands of the Shoals spider-lily.

The state’s most popular state park is Hunting Island State Park, which is known for its 19th century lighthouse and a .4-mile marsh boardwalk. Wildlife here includes alligators, loggerhead turtles, and seahorses.
