College teams dominate the sports action in Iowa. With no professional teams to cheer for, all the attention goes to the two big schools in the state: the Iowa State Cyclones and the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa State Cyclones fans can be found in Ames and nearby Des Moines. With a top-25 ranked football program, Iowa State plays in the NCAA Division I’s Big Ten Conference. Eastern Iowa is Hawkeye country. Competing in the NCAA Division I’s Big Ten Conference, the Hawkeyes are a force to be reckoned with. Teams from Drake University and the University of Northern Iowa also bring the action at college competitions. Love baseball? Iowa is known for its Minor League and independent baseball teams. There are six in all, including the Quad Cities River Bandits, Cedar Rapids Kernels, Iowa Cubs, Burlington Bees, Clinton LumberKings, and Sioux City Explorers.

Hockey action at its best. The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders US Hockey League Team is serious about their sport. When it comes to hockey, this Tier 1 junior league team has been in in Cedar Rapids since 1999. They won the Anderson Cup and the Clark Cup titles in 2004/2005 and won the Anderson Cup title again in 2010/2011.

For a fun night out in Iowa, take the family to "The Stable" hockey arena in the Veterans Memorial Park to catch the action.
