Sporting Events and Activities
You won’t find a more passionate fan base with more lively crowds and more infectious excitement than when you’re taking in a football or basketball game in New Orleans or Baton Rouge. Watch Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints light up the turf and the scoreboard at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this fall. Make sure you get to NOLA for the Sugar Bowl this January. No matter the event; with over 72,000 seats; there’s no better place to watch a live performance than the Superdome.
Get your fill of excitement-packed NBA action at the Smoothie King Center this season when Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans take the court. Watch Tulane University’s basketball team storm the Smoothie King Center as well this season and get your ticket to the many concerts and live events happening there.
Join with Tiger Nation and cheer on LSU as they take the field at Death Valley in Baton Rouge. Head out to Skip Bertman Field for an LSU baseball game or the Pete Maravich Assembly Center to see the Tigers’ men’s and women’s basketball squads take the floor. The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches is a destination every sports fan should mark down as a must-go. Racing fans out there will have plenty of tracks to visit.
A number of dirt races can be found in northern Louisiana at the Boothill Speedway. Check out the Battle of Boothill and the Louisiana Dirt Track State Championship. Take a ride to Monroe and experience the Twin City Motorsports Park. Races in a wide range of classes can be found at the Revolution Park Racing and Entertainment Complex. If you’re looking for one of the best drag racing experiences around, go no further than Gilliam; home of Thunder Road Raceway Park. You’ll find plenty of race events all year long at Baton Rouge Raceway.
For you golfers out there, book a tee time for the Chennault Park Golf Course in Monroe. Anyone visiting Lake Charles must play the Frasch Park Golf Course just southwest of downtown Sulphur on Picard Road. You will have a hard time finding any course as beautiful, well kept, and renowned as the Lakewood Golf Course in southeastern New Orleans. Lakewood has hosted over 25 PGA Tour events since opening in the early 1960’s and has seen legendary golfers such as Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson earn championship honors.
Take advantage of the Lakewood Practice Facilities, catering services for tournaments, and a 2,500-square foot clubhouse at this world-class course recently modernized by award-winning architect Ron Garl. Just across from the campus of Northwestern State University and just south of Sibley Lake is Northwestern Hills Golf Course; a par 72, public course offering standard golf cart rentals to anyone with a valid driver’s license, this is one of the finest executive golf courses you can find.
Right next to the Alexandria International Airport is Alexandria’s Oak Wing Golf Course. Enjoy gorgeous views of the landscape of Alexandria along one of the more challenging courses you’ll find. The Querbes Park Golf Course is sure to be a challenge for golfers of any skill level. Enjoy a beautiful course with wide-open fairways at Warrior Hills Golf Course in Fort Polk, near the Kisatchie National Forest.
The unmatched views along with the challenge the course presents, especially on holes two and nine, make the Wetlands Golf Course a must if you’re planning to hit the links in Lafayette; a truly lovely slice of Cajun Country. The Wetlands course was designed by Frank Burandt, one of the top golf course architects in the industry.
