Find Your Favorite Bayou State Park

The Bayou State is known for it’s colorful cities, excellent creole cuisine, and history, but yet another staple of this scenic area happens to be Louisiana’s state parks.

Lakes and water recreation abound in northern Louisiana thanks to parks like Lake Bistineau State Park, Lake Bruin State Park, Lake D'Arbonne State Park, and Poverty Point Reservoir State Park.

Central Louisiana is home to more great examples of outdoor fun. Set aside an entire day for Hodges Gardens State Park, or try fishing, hiking, and cycling at Chicot State Park.

Then make your way to the Toledo Bend Reservoir for both North Toledo Bend State Park and South Toledo Bend State Park. The reservoir is truly massive, measuring in at over 185,000 acres, lending itself to outstanding boating and fishing.

The surrounding countryside of New Orleans offers plenty of parkland as well. Check out Bayou Segnette State Park and St. Bernard State Park along the Mississippi River, or head across Lake Pontchartrain for Fairview-Riverside State Park and Fontainebleau State Park.

Southern Louisiana offers many parks set on islands, inlets, and the Gulf of Mexico shore. Check out Cypremort Point State Park, Grand Isle State Park, Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, and Palmetto Island State Park – all great for fishing, hiking, and more.

Set in southwestern Louisiana, Sam Houston Jones State Park is an ideal bird watching spot, while the Hammond area features Bogue Chitto State Park and Tickfaw State Park.
