Whether you’re a bargain hunter or in the mood to splurge, you’ll find a wealth of places to go shopping around Illinois. Aside from The Magnificent Mile in Chicago, you can find plenty of fashionable clothes, shoes, home goods, gifts, and collectibles at some the indoor shopping complexes, boutique shops, and other stores around the state.

In Chicago, the 900 North Michigan Shops shopping mall is where you’ll find major department stores and brand name retailers. This is the mall with its own Bloomingdales department store and hosts seasonal events throughout the year. The main shopping strip in Chicago is the Magnificent Mile and runs all the way along north Michigan Avenue from the Chicago River to Oak Street. It’s home to several major retailers, including Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, and Pottery Barn. Water Tower Place is located here, an indoor shopping complex with several retail stores. Make your way to State Street to shop even more department stores.

When you find yourself in the northwestern Chicago metropolitan area, head to Deer Park Town Center to shop more than 70 upscale stores. The mall is also home to a Barnes & Noble Cafe, Starbucks, and several great restaurants and eateries. The kids can meet Santa here during the holiday season and you can enjoy a number of family friendly events at this shopping complex throughout the year.

As you drive through Central Illinois, don’t miss the chance to visit the East Peoria Bass Pro Shops. It’s easily accessible from Interstate 74 and is home to the Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl Restaurant and Uncle Buck’s Bowling Alley. The 150,000 square foot store features its own archery range, freshwater aquarium, and an old-fashioned general store. Another shopping destination to visit here is Rockome Gardens. You can take a tour of thee gardens to see the historic landscaped gardens and shop for souvenirs and collectibles at the Christmas Cottage, Sarah’s General Store, Irene’s Gift Shop, and the Blacksmith Shop. One of the oldest malls in the state is located in Schaumburg, a suburb of Chicago. It’s the fifth largest shopping center in the country and features more than 300 stores. The mall first opened in 1971 and is home to several departments stores and retail stores, including Macy’s, Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, and Sears. It’s one of the top shopping destinations in Illinois so you won’t want to miss out when you’re driving around the northwestern suburbs.

Outlet shopping is a popular activity in Illinois and you’ll find outlet stores around Chicago that bring in thousands of visitors every year. Head to the Fashion Outlets of Chicago in Rosemont to shop more than 150 brand name stores with discount merchandise. The venue is also home to a food court and you’ll find some other great places to eat within a short drive of the outlet center. The Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora, about 45 minutes west of Chicago, and the Gurnee Mills shopping complex about 45 minutes north of Chicago are some other popular outlet shopping centers to explore around Chicago.

Exploring some of the historic districts around the state is another great reason to go shopping. From Galena to Woodstock, you can head to a number of destinations to explore boutique stores, art galleries, and antique shops. Don’t forget to shop a flea market or two to discover a treasure trove of handmade goods, collectibles, trinkets, and old books.

The Promenade Bolingbrook in Bolingbrook, Illinois is where you’ll find several popular mall stores in an outdoor setting instead of an enclosed mall. This is a great place to walk around and enjoy some live music, people watching, and other entertainment. The venue hosts concerts in the summer months and a farmer’s market on Thursday nights so you’ll always have plenty to do outside of shopping during your trip.

Deer Park Town Center

Open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. – and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. – the Deer Park Town Center is located in the northwestern Chicago metropolitan area. One of the most visited malls in the area, the Deer Park Town Center also hosts special events.

Set in Deer Park near Schaumburg, the center offers over 70 upscale stores and restaurants. Browse through J.Crew, Sephora, Brooks Brothers, and the Apple Store, and grab a coffee at Barnes & Noble Café or Starbucks. Be sure to visit Deep Park Town Center during your holiday visit when the kids will have a chance to meet Santa. Shop on any of the big holidays and find top sales and deals at Deer Park.

East Peoria Bass Pro Shops

Set on the south shore of Peoria Lake, the East Peoria Bass Pro Shops is found easily along Interstate 74. Set in central Illinois, Bass Pro Shops is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The 150,000-square-feet Bass Pro Shops of East Peoria is home to the Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl Restaurant and Uncle Buck’s Bowling Alley – plus a 26,000-gallon, fresh-water aquarium, an archery range, and old-fashioned genera store.

Woodfield Mall

First opened in 1971, Woodfield Mall is located in Schaumburg in the northwestern suburbs of the Chicago metropolitan area. Currently the nation’s fifth largest shopping center, Woodfield Mall features over 300 stores across 2.2 million square feet.

Owned and operated by Simon Property Group, Woodfield Mall offers anchor stores like JCPenney, Lord & Taylor, Macy's, Nordstrom, and Sears. Make the short drive in from nearby Glenview and check out some of the premier shopping destinations in all of Illinois.

Rockome Gardens

Founded by Arthur and Elizabeth Martin, the Rockome Gardens is located in central Illinois in the city of Arcola. A top attraction within Amish country, Rockome Gardens is owned by the Rockome Gardens Preservation, Inc. As you plan your next visit to the area, be sure to include a tour of the Rockome Gardens.

Rockome Gardens features the historic gardens, Rockome Restaurant, the Amish Museum, the Martin House, and buggy tours.
