The Only Place I Will Stay In NYC

posted May 22, 2012

I love the Roger Smith Hotel for many reasons. I first stayed here in the mid-1990s and found it to be so warm and comfortable. I did not have the opportunity to return to the city again until Christmas, 2009. Then I came with my husband and daughter ~ their first time to NYC. To my happy surprise, it was just as I remembered, if not better. The front desk staff made us feel like family ~ especially Sophie!! They shared suggestions for restaurants and activities for our family. The maid service was excellent. The ladies took special care to all the details in our room. Each night we returned to the hotel was like coming home. Thankfully, I have had the opportunity to stay at the Roger Smith several times in many different rooms. I like all of them for different reasons ~ because no two of them are the same!! The location is perfect. The rooms are large and comfortable. The staff is warm and professional. Each trip to the city has given us many wonderful memories. While we visit for many different reasons, the one thing we don't want to change is where we stay. We'll be at the Roger Smith!!

Nice visit.

I stayed here for 2 nights in April. It was very pleasant. The typical hotel amenities were as expected. The free wifi was nice too. I was most impressed with the very large rooms for a NYC hotel. Any frequent traveler to NYC knows the hotel rooms can be on the small side, well not here. Two full size rooms. One with a couch, chairs, desk, dining table for at least 4, TV, small closet kitchen with a Microwave, fridge and sink. The bedroom and bathroom were a bit larger than the typical space. The hotel is located by easy subway access if you are a subterranean traveler like me. The only complaint I have is the street noise was a bit loud on Friday night from the nearby clubs as they emptied out and the drunk revelers went on their merry way. It would not prevent me from going back again.

We liked The Roger Smith Hotel

We stayed for a weekend in May, in a simple room on the 4th floor. We purchased the room with credit card points. Usually you only find generic hotel rooms when using points, but this place is a great old location that retains some of the feel of what Midtown must have been like in the days when Grand Central (which is very close) was the main portal into Manhattan. I particularly liked the bathroom, which had some old fashioned fixtures and tile. Some reviewers have called the place "dated" - which is a negative way of describing what we liked best about the hotel. Staff was friendly, room was right above Lexington but amazingly quiet, comfortable, clean, well-cared for.

Excelent customer service !!!

The Roger Smith hotel is located very close to Grand Central, a few blocks away from the United Nations building and some other attractions in New York; such as, The New York library, The Empire State building and more. I checked in on Thursday April the 26th and I was welcomed by a smiling and very professional front desk agent: Sophie. She was absolutely friendly and knowledgeable about the property. However, the standards of cleaniliness of the Roger Smith didn't meet my expectations. I was in a non-smoking room, in fact they asked me to sign a paper where I promised not to smoke. I'm not a smoker but if I was asked to do this and the room was supposed to be non-smoking room then they should be a little bit more careful. The size of the room was ok, but not enough hooks and space in the bathroom to hang and put stuff. The towels were very stiff and definitely I didn't feel comfortable using them very often. The carpet had stains on it and the reception of the TV was not the best. The view from the room was ok, It faced some of the buildings from the side but at least it wasn't noisy when we closed the windows. Customer service is excellent... but I think that the hotel needs a renovation.

Very good location, great suites, reasonable price!

We chose the Roger Smith because it offers suites and since the prices were just a little lower than of other suite hotels. We were not disappointed. For the first 4 nights of our stay we could use the eUpgrade option to stay in two bedroom suite 711 for just $25 more per night ... the last two nights we stayed in one bedroom suite 1011 which was arguably even better and gorgeous with a balcony and a completely and artfully refurbished bathroom (see a couple pictures). The front desk staff, especially Sophie and Jimmy, did everything they did to make this transition and also our last day when we flew out late, comfortable. The hotel is very conveniently located near the Theatre District, Fifth Avenue, Top of the Rock and Radio City Hall, and just a couple of blocks north of Grand Central Station. Central Park is also within walking distance. There is a pharmacy/supermarket on immediately on other side of 47th street. Breakfast at Cafe Metro on 46th street was terrific. There was also a Deli just across the street and an even betetr one nearby on Madison avenue.
