Planned a trip last minute. I googled New Jersey hotels near my route, clicked on all of the red dots and judged on who had the prettiest pictures. This hotel really looks like its pictures on its site. It's very pretty. So I booked a room right then and there! I chose the Money Saver deal - a bit iffy at first but said "Oh well! Let's take a chance." (The choosing and booking literally took me 10 minutes) When I got there, I went to the front desk, stated my name, the lady at the front was really nice. While she was setting things up, I saw they had won the 2011 award for local weddings - the place IS very pretty. Then I got my keys after two minutes! I was eager to crash because I was tiiiiired. But the service was too nice asking if I wanted extra keys, if I wanted a wake-up call... etc. Got to my room - very clean, very pretty and sophisticated! I give hotels a good rating when I can bury my face in the pillow and sheets because it's clean. There were two lollipops in the super clean bathroom too. It offered mint shampoo, bergamot conditioner, and this lime moisturizer, If my deal came with a free breakfast, I would be off the wall happy. But I was still really pleased! (btw, I had breakfast in Manhattan Bagel off Eagle Rock road - that place is really good too!)

Unaccomadating

posted May 22, 2012

I called to book the hotel for a wedding and was put on hold, not asked to be put on hold but told 'Hang on' by a seemingly bored employee I apparently bothered. I called a few days later to request an early check-in by 3 hours since we are flying in from multiple states away and will be getting in the morning and will need to get ready for a wedding that is around normal check-in time. The unaccommodating hotel staff told me to book a room the night before they were not going to guarantee any type of early check-in. We're cancelling our reservation and going to a place that values customer service and will help us instead of trying to get more money out of us. Don't stay here if you like accommodating hotel staff.

Nice Stay (but famished!)

This is a very nice hotel, off a busy highway in Livingston, NJ. It's a 4-diamond property, but know that it's basically a very nice hotel on a busy highway. Beds were incredibly comfortable. Pool wasn't huge, but adequate and nice to have. It had a nice looking restaurant in it (a steak house). My only complaint was that there was no way to get a snack. The pool had a soda machine, but that was it --- you could eat steak at the restaurant or get in your car and drive a mile or two. Would I kill them to put in another vending machine somewhere, or a bowl of apples? It is part of some kind of world chain of hotels, and it reminded me that Europeans don't snack. But American's do!

Great Hotel

The Westminster is a great hotel in a crowded, residential area of NJ. With a car one can zip into the Oranges, Summit, Roseland, or other parts of Livingston in 10 minutes. Lobby is spacious and inviting. Front desk people very friendly and helpful. The rooms are generous in size and quite well appointed. Bedding is fine. The walls between the rooms are well insulated, as we heard no noise from other rooms. Lots of parking, free. There is a nice indoor swimming pool, perfect for the kids. On weekdays, the room includes a buffet bkfst. Adequate, but not overwhelming. The same bkst (with bacon and sausage added) on the weekends is $21 for adults and $13 for kids. Too much for too little, in my opinion. The Strip Restaurant, in the hotel, was expensive but very nice for a convenient meal after a long drive to NJ. But I wouldn't eat there every night. NJ has lots of great restaurants. Directly across the street (highway) there is an inexpensive gas station. A short drive to Millburn, and parking on the residential streets, allows a quick walk to the train station and a train into NYC. Much easier than driving into Manhattan. This is a much more substantial facility than a motel. This is a very large hotel. I'd run back here in a minute on my next trip to NJ!
