Spent a week here ( 30.04 - 07.05 ) which was thoroughly enjoyed. Booked direct with the hotel who matched online prices for a Superior room. Room was excellent, large, airy, good aircon and clean. Previous reviews mentioned the number of small buildings that comprise the hotel, true but we didn't find it onerous, the lift worked well. Took advantage of the 3 for 2 on the evening buffet, which was excellent. Both dinnner and breakfast had plenty of choice, and the food was hot. Happy hour kept the price of drinks down. Internet access was free, both WiFi and at computers. The hotel is centrally located and an easy 10 minute walk to town. Also ate in the Italian, and at O Arista and the Algarvian, both across the road. i would recommend all 3, average prices about 50 euros for 2 courses, coffee and drinks. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Not many children here, more older people, which did help. But the room was very quiet at all times. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. But beware of Romanian Pick pockets, they operate throughout the town.

After a brilliant stay in Vilamoura two years ago I decided to go back to Portugal. We decided to stay in the Tivoli Lagos. The hotel itself is not what I would have expected from the Tivoli chain and on first arrival I was a small bit disappointed. Check-in was quick however I agree with pass comments on the strange layout of the hotel. It took us roughly 15 minutes to find our room as the layout is bizarre! The room was nice (on the small side), bathroom a good nice and the balcony decent. Location is also good. The next morning we went down to get our breakfast and I was very impressed with the choice of food. Now the bad points...The pool area is lovely but at peak season it would be far too small and not enough beds. We were there in April and we found we were searching for sun loungers. The staff were extremely rude, I don’t know if we looked young (early 30's) but we were treated like kids that they had no respect for. In particular the staff who looked after the bar by the pool were one of the worst. The main thing that I found with this hotel was the age.. 90% of the people staying here were at least over 65. Maybe it was at that time of year but if I had read this before booking I would have opted for another hotel. We got talking to a lovely English couple (in that age bracket) and they couldnt understand why we picked this hotel. Dont get me wrong we werent looking for party hotel, we wanted a nice relaxing holiday, but this hotel honestly felt like a retirement village. I also think that the above picture (the pool with he nice loungers looking over the sea) is very misleading. This is not part of the hotel in Lagos but infact a bus journey(free) to their private beach to which no-one told us this was available (I found this out on Tripadvisor).

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Tivoli hotel in Lagos. We only ate breakfast which was good and lunch a couple of times, but the portions were small for the price charged. The lunchtime menu was changed from Winter to Summer but the food choice was exactly the same, so need to vary the menu. Happy hour is good so long as you do not expect the fruit juice to be included as this was 8 Euros for a pint which was pricey. The hotel is 45 years old and is somewhat quirky with rooms where each one is different but is very relaxing and was the quietest hotel we have ever stayed in until the children arrived towards the end of the week. The garden and pool area is lovely and gets the sun all day, is beautifully clean and does not have chlorine in the water which is great as it can play havoc with your skin, hair and eyes. They have good sunbeds (albeit they could be a little comfier) and umbrellas, some of the best we have encountered on our travels. However, we did encounter a few issues that were not dealt with immediately which was frustrating. We had booked a Superior double room but were shown to a twin which was somewhat basic and therefore said we were not happy. We were then shown a double room in another block on a higher floor but the room was very small and believe it was just a standard room which we did not like. Two other rooms were then shown to us and the one we picked had to be cleaned so we sat by the pool and waited to be advised when it was ready. When we asked the porter if it was ready he had already moved all our bags from the original room which was much appreciated. Unfortunately this room did not have a view but it was quiet. Once in the room we found the air conditioning was not working efficiently nor the fridge, both of which maintenance had to deal with several times. We discovered mould in the ice tray as the water was not freezing which was most unpleasant. The weather became very hot during our stay so both of these were a must. There was also a smell of sewage too which was not great. We also had a couple of stained towels, which they apologised about. Having complained to reception several times to no avail, I mentioned our dissatisfaction to a male receptionist who immediately escalated our complaints which then was dealt with by my husband and the manager because he was fed up by now. I have to say that Susana took the issues on board and apologised saying that there had been a mistake with our booking and showed us a suite which did have a working fridge and air conditioning. We received fruit and water and Port and local delicacies too. This was appreciated but moving rooms was an inconvenience we could have done without. The room was comfortable and cool but feel that had we paid the higher rate would not have felt it was worth it. Also the beds and pillows could be a little softer and light duvets may be better than blankets. However, overall we enjoyed our stay and we are intending to return but would need to ensure we got a room that had an efficient fridge and air conditioning.

This is a Tivoli 4 star hotel, however the service and rooms are bellow to what the Tivoli brand normally offers: e.g. asking for restaurant tips in the reception was a deception as no restaurants were suggested, the room is small for a 4 stars. Besides those downsides this is a typical 4 star summer hotel: lots of space nice swimming pool and nice bar atmosphere. Breakfast was nice. 2 Restaurants inside that we didn't go to just because their did not represent the local cuisine (no fresh fish in a menu in Algarve mean a no go restaurant for us).
