Fantastic hotel

posted May 21, 2012

The hotel was fantastic, but lacked entertainment this time of year(May 2012) Free aircon in rooms, free access to internet too and free towels for sun loungers too. Staff were very helpful and knowledgable regarding local area for restaurants, bus routes, activities anything we asked really! We were upgraded to a sea-view room as they didn't have any double bed rooms left, so we were delighted; we didn't really notice the fact beds were only twins. Room had great view of pool and sea too. The room had everything you'd need coffee/tea, TV, plenty of cupboard space. Shower/bath and hairdryer. You need to ask for towels to replaced and they don't change them otherwise. Rooms in cleaned everyday and bedding changed if needs be. We stayed for bed and breakfast to cannot comment on lunch or dinner. Breakfast runs from 7.30 til 10am and consists on hot and cold drinks; buffet style including cooked breakfast eggs, bacon, sausage and beans. There is also hams, fruit and danish/cakes. Pools are great but outdoor one is bit cold this time of year; indoor pool is great. There is Spa inc massage and beauty. Great pubs and restaurants 10mins walk from hotel; you leave the hotel exit and turn left for the following: We enjoyed a place called Round Up Saloon, which had live entertainment and karaoke. We went to a fabulous restaurant inbetween cliffs called A Boneca , it is a must. They have fresh fish of the day which is cooked on a BBQ. Really lovely sounds of the waves crashing against cliffs. Lovely Chinese restaurant too, situated upstairs around 15mins walk from hotel. Great Italian place called Villa Medici, really tasty food, we went back twice! If you leave the hotel and turn right: There is a great beach about half a mile from away, but up a hill and down many steps but is fabulous once there. Sea is clear and warm

Lovely location but

Rated this hotel very good and we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms and the hotel are immaculately clean and the location is superb - what a view from the sea-view rooms. We thought that it was good value for money but the food was not up to four star standards in our opinion. It is in need of a refurbishment and Tivoli need to get it sorted but the location alone would sell this hotel. The breakfast was very poor and during the first couple of days of our visit (12 - 20 May) the restaurant was very understaffed - just a few guys trying to do everything. It did pick up a little for the latter part of our stay. As previously stated the reception staff are very accommodating but the wait staff are a little surly, maybe pressure of work. Originally had a room on the 6th floor, had to stand to see the sea, so requested a change - done without any problems - so glad we did, much bigger room and great view. Not too much storage space but hey not a big deal. Drinks prices, as at most hotels astronomical - watch for the Happy Hour - no big deal, just 20% off so still much more expensie than the bars outside. Enjoyed a few drinks in the little bar just down the road a little on the opposite side - think it was Acordeao or something similar, very nice Portugese people run the bar. Even though we had some niggles we did enjoy our stay at the hotel and it proved to be good value for money.

needs work

stayed here in May2012 request for high floor sea view was met also GHA card for free newspapers and free wifi was good, however rooms require urgent upgrade although very clean they need a refurb urgently, reception staff very good however rest of the staff quite surly and not at all customer orientated, prices for drinks very high 2 cokes 10 euros, bottle of water 3.80 euros (you can get a large bacardi and coke for 2.5 euros just down the road and same bottle of water for 60c) no mattresses/pads for sunbeds make them very uncomfortable, breakfast very basic ,congealed scrambled egg/fried eggs small selection of fruit ,bone dry croissants hot dog style sausages, no fresh cooking of omlettes/pancakes or waffles as in other 4 star hotels, this purports to be 4 star they should look at Riu Palace graded same 4 star status but a world away from Tivoli in terms of quality staff etc, this hotel seems to be limping along on a shoestring budget and it shows, only for 2 wedding parties(one very noisy) and an organised Irish music week there would have been hardly any guests here, the hotel is in an eviable position and proposed refurb works have been stopped due to economic climate,if they dont do a refurb soon and sort out the other issues they will not have any guests at all

Fantastic.....

I am so glad I found this hotel for a weeks stay in Carvoeiro. Where do I start? The journey from the airport is about an hour but dont let this put you off, as the hotel is well worth it. We stayed May 5th to May 12th and got very reasonable rates so I really wasnt expecting much! We joined GHA and that was fab. We got free wifi every day (sometimes it was a bit hit and miss and we did have to go to reception to ask for more codes..... but once that was sorted it was great). We got one bottle of water throughout the stay and the newspapers every day were also an added bonus. They alone were about 2 euro 50 in the shop. We arrived on my birthday and there was a bottle of champagne, bottle of rose, cake and pastries in the room. This was a very lovely touch. We had room 411. We loved the location. It was a family room but we asked for the single beds to be made into French beds and it was done straight away. There was another single bed on the opposite side of the room and this was great for putting suitcases on. The room was very large with table and chairs and an extra chair. TV was perfect, only one or two english channels but I did quite enjoy itv3 and the old tv shows (upstairs downstairs, hearbeat, on the buses)... had never seen any of these before so for me it was fine. The room was cleaned every day. It was immaculate. I liked the fact that the hotel was carpeted and not tiled floors. Our towels were also changed upon request and fresh soaps etc put into the bathroom every day. I have to say it was the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed at. Brilliant brilliant servicing of the hotel. You can get beach towels at reception at no extra charge. We also extended our room till 2pm on the day we left at no extra charge! We stayed on a b&b rate so I cannot comment on the food apart from breakfast. It was fine, lots of fresh juices, breads, cakes, cheeses, 3 different egg types, bacon etc. It was nice, no waiter service so just grab your table and help yourself to tea/coffee etc. Then off you go and choose your food. The hotel was rather expensive for drinks including bottles of water. There are supermarkets in the town so I would suggest getting water there instead and or wines and beers. There was no facility in our room to store anything though. We had a mini fridge but it was stated that this was for use for hotel mini bar requests only. Somehow they could only turn it on!! Bit of a shame really but I guess they have to make their money somewhere. Plenty of sunbeds by the pool, water freezing but indoor pool was lovely. Gym great too, plenty of weights, treadmill, rowing machine, cross trainer. I used the gym a couple of times to run and it was very good. Nicely air conditioned so you dont overheat. The hotel is about 15 minute walk to the centre of the town, downhill!! The paths are all cobbled so ladies my advice .... NO HIGH HEELS.... you will kill yourself as its very uneven. We went into town every night to eat. Lots of restaurants down the hill. We tried Vimar and it was good. They did a 3 course tourist menu including wine for 11.50. It really was good, quite surprisingly. We were not very impressed with their lunch but dinner was good. It is the first restaurant you come to on the right hand side of the road. Turn left out of the hotel to get to town. We also tried an italian on the same side further down, it was crap!!! Think it was called california or something like that. You cant miss it, the table cloths were green check and tubby girl standing outside to try and get you in. Food was crap....... The best restaurant by far was El & Ela... omg, its amazing. We went twice. Find it in town, you will not be disappointed. The area itself is lovey, we had a few cloudy days so walked miles around and it really is lovely. The beach at the hotel looked lovely but I couldnt get down to it. The last step eroded and it was about a 5ft jump down.... I am only 5ft2 so getting back up would not have been fun. My husband did go and have a look in the caves etc. The walkway to the beach is not very nice. At one stage you have to walk over a pallet to get from one rock to the other, needless to say it is not a beach for bathing or swimming. More for show. That was the only let down of the entire hotel. The views from room 411 were spectacular. We were on the left hand side of the hotel so got the full view of the cliffs etc and not the pool (thank god) The balconies over that side are all next to one another and too close to thy neighbour for our liking. Ours was very private so if you like that ask for room 411. The hotel is not ultra modern in the bedrooms but still very nice. They have tried really hard and I personally think it is a fantastic place to stay and I didnt want to come home. If you want a lovely place to stay in Carvoeiro choose this hotel.

Great location! Recommended
