just don't eat at the hotel

posted May 19, 2012

The hotel is very clean and nice. Recently they started also offering free Wi-Fi in the rooms (instead of only in the lobby which was a drag) and this clearly improves the stay. Just don't eat at the hotel (room service or in the restaurant) - it is a total rip-off. I ordered (room service) a beef carpaccio and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the quantity - there was literally no more than 30 grams on the plate - for which I paid 15 euro. I travel a lot but I've never felt so ripped off and in such a shameless way. The food in the restaurant was tasteless, badly cooked (although with good presentation) and incredibly overpriced (ca. 45 euro per head, no alcohol). Beds are comfortable, although (I stayed there 4 times and in all rooms it was the same) you don't get a queen/king size bed but 2 beds put together which kind ot loses it's point because you end up being squeezed in one small bed.

No room despite guranteed booking

posted May 9, 2012

I informed the hotel about my late arrival and I had a guranteed booking with high cancellation fees. When arriving at midnight the hotel was fully booked, lame apologies (never happened in 20 years....whoever believes it...), then being transferred to a worse hotel, the next day a cheap bottle of wine as an excuse and an upgrade which didn't help me at all because I just needed a bed close to the wordforum that is close by. The rooms were OK.

Quick Business Trip

posted May 8, 2012

I only stayed at this hotel for one night and I have to say it was what I would expect. Staff were very helpful but not over bearing. The hotel was booked at the very last minute and booking in was fine and hassle free. The evening meal was good and not too badly priced which is something that can not be said about breakfast which at 20 Euro was extortionate. Links to train and tram were good. The room was what you would expect with very comfortable bed. Overall a good business hotel.

Helpful Staffs

posted April 28, 2012

I didnt log at this hotel, i had a 5days morning till evening seminar in this hotel. Pls note my review is just generally About the genuineness and helpfulness of the staffs. They are really nice and helpful without been overly friendly. Though the meal in this hotel needs upgrading.

Good wireless

posted April 23, 2012

Good wireless is about all I can say for this remarkably average hotel. "Good Grief" would be a better title. At night while working away on my laptop I could hear this awful high pitched whistling, I suspect this was either the air-con or that noise you can hear when someone is running a tap running down stairs, but it lasted for hours. Curiously I woke to the sound of running water at 3 AM. I had to check that the toilet was not overflowing and even flushed it to check that it was ok. My toilet was Ok, but the flushing sound carried on for another hour, clearly nothing to do with my toilet. Now The PILLOWS? I challenge anyone to sleep on that partially deflated football and not wake up with a crick in your neck. On the second night I decided to take out my pillow and stuff other things into the pillow case which was a resounding if completely ridiculous success. There is a Gym which was probably a 9th Floor room, with some sort of cross trainer and running machine or something, I forget, and it had some weights if I was not mistaken, but there is no pool or sauna etc. Although perhaps they converted the room above me to a pool and were filling it up using whistles to signal when to turn the taps on at 3AM who knows. The Breakfast Bar is sort of like a landlocked "Ships Galley", with people and waiters squeezing past each other in a desperate bid to get to the juices and breads etc. The Sausages and eggs were the usual dried to a crisp affair that we sadly must accept in all business hotels these days. One day I may set-up a service to covertly deliver a really good breakfast to people in hotels for half the price they charge these days. If you prefer your breakfast in peace with only the sound of building repairs to entertain you, then head over to the Novotel, where the place was empty last time I checked. The rooms are not anywhere near as nice as the Novotel's recently refurbished rooms but there really isn't any reason to get excited, the Bel air is no less a hotel than most others in Europe. They brought up a Iron to my room when asked, and there are nearby restaurants round the corner about 500m away, thanks to a nifty touch screen restaurant map in the foyer we were able to find a respectful Italian and some steakhouse place. The TVs were nice and did I mention the wireless worked much better....
