Outstanding Service, Nice Family Room

posted May 7, 2012

Our family spent 4 night in a nice modern and spacious family room with four beds. The bathroom was small but clean and OK, with the usual amenities for a 4* hotel. The hotel staff was outstanding and the service provided by the many nice ladies at the lobby was absolutely exceptional. This large hotel is close to the main train station and has a very useful shuttle to the station. We figured out quickly how to move around Kyoto by public transportation, so the location was not an issue. We booked at the last minute for a stay just before Golden Week, so we were happy to find this accommodation at a reasonable price although not located in the touristic part of town. There are many restaurants and cafes within walking distance. The room had a direct view on the train tracks which was not an issue since the windows were well sound proofed.

Nice rooms, breakfast spoiled the mood

posted May 1, 2012

The first impression was that this is really nice hotel. The rooms where quite nice with "Japanese" styled doors, which opened sideways and it had an Japanese vibes or something. The location was great near the railway station although no convenient store near the hotel. Big supermarket just other side of the railways, but I did not go in there. We were on a business trip so basically quick breakfast and late return. Rihga Royal had so small breakfast restaurant that when we got there at 7:00 am, the restaurant was full and there were people waiting for to get in. So no breakfast for us that day. Next day I had to leave so early for the train that I decided not to even try to go for breakfast. And of course when I checked out I had to pay for the breakfast despite I had the breakfast coupons still in my hands. I would have rated 4 stars (or balls) without the breakfast thing.

Problem Booking

posted April 28, 2012

We booked via a third party website and when we arrived the booking was never made. We had to pay a much higher rate, which if we had known we would have booked somewhere else better value. The staff were very friendly and helpful about it and can't fault them there but this was just a very disappointing start to our trip. The location is a short walk from the train station, but wasnt the nicest area and wouldnt go back, felt run down. Much much nicer parts of Kyoto to stay in.

Mediocre accommodations

posted April 27, 2012

Stayed here for 3 days in a standard double. Lobby was nicely decorated as well as hallways to rooms. The rooms, however, were rather dated. Just a couple of electrical outlets, bed was not the best, bathroom was small & just ok. I know JP is expensive so I guess it was a good deal. Best part was the free shuttle that ran to Kyoto Station every 15 mins. Staff was helpful as well.

Adequate Rooms, Good Location

posted April 23, 2012

The room size is about as good as you can get for the proce. It is near the Kyoto Train Station which is both a transportation center and a commerce center with dozens of good restaurants and shops. The staff's English was adequate. With the windows open, you can hear a lot of the activity in this congested area.
