We booked a suite at The Duke and unfortunately as soon as we entered our room we could smell something strange. It was a sort of sewage-type smell mixed with air freshner coming from the bathroom. We did mention this to the hotel staff and no aplogogies were offered....There was obviously a problem with either this room or the plumbing of the hotel as the smell never disappeared during our stay, and our only option was to keep the bathroom door shut at all times. The following 2 mornings when we showered there was no hot water in the room either. We did mention this twice to the hotel staff and no aplogogies were offered. The complimentary robes had other people's hair on which made me wonder whether they had actually been washed at all, so we never used them. There were no tea and coffee facilities in the room, no english TV or news channnel, no proper bar and no facilities for children or teenagers to amuse themselves for a short time. The hotel is not near the town centre either and therefore runs a free shuttle into the town, but unless you book way in advance there is little chance of being able to get a seat so this was no use to us as we were only in Rome for 3 days. We also had a complimentary 3 course meal included in our package and we saved this for our last night. Our travel agent had previously advised the hotel that some of our party had serious food allergies and this was even written on our hotel booking paper work but when we came to order our meal that evening, we were advised that we could not choose from the restaurant menu but the 3 of us would be given the chef's choice of meal. We asked what that would be but unfortunately given that we didn't speak Italian and that the waiter could not speak English, we didn't want to risk a trip to the local hospital! So another disappointment for us... I would definitely not recommend this hotel at all.

After crossing the Atlantic on our cruise I was looking forward to a relaxing day of rest. Booking this hotel was plain and simple. I prepaid for the hotel to get the best rate and upon our arrival the staff was both pleasent and welcoming. (A helpful hint would be to call the hotel and ask for the shuttle to pick you up at the drop off point, where the metro station is at Plaza del Popolo). It would have saved me a bus ride and walk up the street to the hotel. All in all my room was a double suite with balcony, which Mario upgraded me to, the bathroom is marble and the tub is deep, which I enjoyed with a large glass of wine to soak in. In the morning the breakfast was perfect, with fresh fruit, sausage, eggs, various breads and pastries, and the coffee was so good. The shuttle is easy to coordinate with the staff the evening prior to your daily excursions. The desk staff and shuttle driver are very accomidating and a pleasure. I asked for directions to the pharmacy and the desk staff called before hand to ensure they would be open as it was a half hour to closing time, thank you. I will deffinately come back to the Duke. Mario and Luigi are pefect hosts and made our stay very enjoyable. This Italian hotel is a perfect home away from home.

We were upgraded to a small suite on arrival. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. Breakfast was plentiful and varied by Italian standards. The great thing about this hotel is the friendly, professional service given by the staff. We found the reception desk staff exceptional and their language skills impressive. The location of the hotel in a quiet suburb wasn't a problem and we used the free shuttle bus everyday, though you should book your place on the shuttle the previous evening if you want to get an early start. It takes about 10 mins on the shuttle to Piazza Popolo from where you can walk to most major sights or take the metro. The hotel is within walking distance of the Borghese gardens and there is also a selection of local restaurants at Piazza Euclide about 5 mins walk from the hotel, this also where the nearest metro station can be found. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Duke and will use the hotel again when visiting Rome.

Travelled to Rome with a friend for short weekend break. Hotel is in a quiet suburb of Rome, just a short metro ride from the centre. Arrived at hotel quite late due to a flight delay, staff very welcoming advising us where to find nearest restaurants etc. We were given a good room on the 5th floor, very spacious with a nice balcony. Breakfast was included and was more than adequate. All in all we were impressed with the quality of the hotel and the free shuttle bus thery provided was an added bonus. Would definately recommend to friends and hopefully return one day too!

We had a family suite. Rooms 512 & 514. Rooms are nice. Hardwood floors, granite in the bathrooms. Bidet next to the toilet. Large patio. Only issues: - WiFi was hit and miss. Password changes every 24hrs. Front Desk helped with work around. - Free shuttle only picks up/drops off at two locations in town, neither are near major sites, but are near the metro. - Our room had an ant problem in both bathrooms. Wasn't horrible, but certainly noticeable. - No pool or gym onsite.
