camping in a 4star hotel

posted May 22, 2012

it is located in Porta Portese, a nice real roman area. On Sundays there is a nice market in viale trastevere, afterwords Isola Tiberina is at walking distance: it really woth vising it (the famous restaurant Sora Lella is there). The staff is always very nice, rooms are clean and spatious (they have 4bed-rooms) ,they have kitchen facilities; their choice of a modern/naive type of furniture and carpets and tapestry has to be maintained very carefully. It results in a sort of a big camper in which you r passing by. Breakfast is automatized (ah! what a terrible cappuccino!). They are now restauring the facade, therefore you cant look out of the balcony. Wifi is with fee.

Love the location

We were staying in ripa hotel for 4 nights. The hotels in Rome is different then in other places in the world, they all charge alot of money for simple rooms. When you get that you know not to expect something very big and fancy. Ripa hotel is located in trastevere area, which I love. The restaurant, bars, bus and tram is just in the corner, so is the Sunday market. The room is big and simple. It was clean and had everything we needed We were out all day so we were looking for a place which is clean, nice and in a good location, Ripa had it all. The breakfast was nice and the staff we're kind and helpful (thank you melisa for your patience and for all your help) The wi Fi was expansive, but it is the same in all the others hotels so we found coffee place in trastevere which had wi Fi and it was nice to drink our coffee there. bottom line if you are looking for simple, cleane and nice place to stay - this is the place

Decent Hotel which could be very good

This hotel could be very good. Its location at first glance appears inconvenient, tucked away in a residential area of Trastevere. In fact its only a short walk to the restaurant/bar area of the suburb and there is a tram which takes you into the central area easily. The staff on reception were most helpful (unusual for a capital city). The breakfast is especially good. The rooms are odd in that they appear to have been apartments in that there is a large sitting area (which is poorly lit) reducing the bedroom area, meaning the beds are small and a little cramped.. The sink, cooker etc no longer work, but that hardly matters -why don't they just remove them?. Bathroom fine and a nice balcony - not much of a view. The light didn't work, The electrics are all round poor and confusing. Architecturally the interior is very interesting, particularly the breakfast are. They are renovating the exterior. If they sorted out the electrics and the room configuration this couldbe a very good hotel.

Excellent in Every Way

Couldn't fault the Ripa. All the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful - they couldn't do enough for you - this included everyone, not just the Reception staff (maybe this is because we also were always friendly and polite) We were upgraded, at no extra charge, to an 'Executive Room', perhaps because we stayed for 10 nights. They even let us keep the room for an extra hour or so on the day we checked-out (for an evening flight). The room was somewhat 'minimalist' - a little quirky even, but it was interesting, bright, modern, spacious, cleaned daily and the bed was excellent. Towels and bedding changed frequently. The buffet breakfasts couldn't be faulted, with a plentiful selection of hot & cold foods, continuously replenished - even the machine cafe latte was better than quite a few of the cafes and restaurants we went to (where it was often too cool) The hotel location close to the centre of Trastevere, where there was a multitude of lively bars and restaurants, was superb. We regularly dined at 'Da Ivo', a lively old-estabished and authentically Italian Pizzaria, where the quality and prices were unbeatable (7ish Euros for a more than passable bottle of Frascati), and the staff were friendly and attentive. We also dined at Dar Poeta, another old-established Pizzaria, which again felt truly Italian with excellent prices. We tried 'Hostaria del Moro ' (Tony's) which seemed to be well recommended on 'Trip Advisor' one evening - one evening too many for our liking - quite expensive mediocre food (I had 'Bistecca' - it was small, fatty and somewhat undercooked, and it cost an extra 4 Euros for a few cooked potatoes to go with it). This was the worst and most expensive meal we had, and the only place we didn't leave a tip - the staff weren't particularly attentive, and we felt that they wanted us out once it was clear that we'd stopped spending.. The couple sitting next to us paid their bill in cash, and were given their change, proably 6 to 8 Euros in 10 and 20 cent coins- presumably in the hope that they would leave it - never seen anything like it before. The Ripa incidentally was superbly located for transport both into Rome and to Fiumicino airport - 8 Euros from the airport using the train to Trastevere station. A 1 Euro bus/tram ticket, which was valid for 75 minutes, would get you anywhere in Rome. Also worth mentioning that the Ripa had a Carrefour Supermarket less than two minutes walk away, but you need directions from Reception to find it in the first instance.

Great location for all areas of Rome

Great location, particularly to get to trastevere where all the bars and restuarants are. Room very stylish, but lost some functionality because it was quite bare. More storage space and dressing table mirror needed. Great breakfast, good value and overall very pleased with the value and would stay again.
