Peaceful, serene

Peaceful and serene hotel, lovely property and grounds, very attentive and helpful staff: Flavio, Simone. And you must have Marco's coffee, the best we had in Rome...!

Impressive appearance - Acceptable accomodations

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour package, so I don't know if it was a good value or not. This hotel was formerly a monastery so it is generally very grand and expensive looking (although somewhat austere). Our room was on the main floor and had marble floors which were pretty but not terribly comfortable. The room was somewhat lacking in maintenance, with a leaky shower and several burnt out light bulbs. The mattresses were very thin and not very comfortable. There was also an unnervingly large mirror directly in front of the bed, The breakfast was nice (lots of options) and was served in a gorgeous banquet room. The hotel also seemed to have a friendly resident cat which hung around outside the entrance and tried to sneak into the luggage compartment of our bus.

Nice from the outside!!

The outside of this hotel is very impressive but that's where it stops. Our room was so tiny you could hardly move between the bed and the wall. It was on the top floor and had velux windows but even if you stood on a chair you couldn't see out so that made the room seem very claustrophobic. On the second day there was no water in the bathroom for about half an hour - not what I'd expect from a 4 star. Whilst the breakfast itself was nice, with plenty of choice, the room it was served in is like a canteen with large round plastic tables and chairs. The bar area is too bright and therefore not very intimate. The location of the hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the nearest Metro station and it takes about 10 minutes to get to the Vatican with the Trevi fountain and Spanish steps about 15 - 20 minutes away. The good thing is that you don't need to change lines.

value for money with an air of grandeur!

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in May and the experience was very nice! The location of the hotel was close to tube station and about 10-15min from the centre. The entrance with the trees and the building itself start your holiday with an air of grandeur! The twin room on the fourth floor was a bit small with window on the ceiling, and when we asked to change the receptionist was happy to accomodate us. The bathroom, always important, was nice and spacey with shower (although the shower head was leaking). The highlight was the amazing breakfast! Cakes, croissants, eggs and bacon, cheese, nutella, jams, nice coffee, all fresh and tasty! Overall definitely value for money!

Overall good value - has it's pro's and con's

The hotel is a bit out of the city center, about 30 minutes by bus but it's not too bad. The area is not great though. It's but not very nice looking. The hotel makes up for it though as there is a long gated drive way that leads up to it so there isn't much noise from the main road. The building its self is very nice and classical. The grounds are also beautiful. The interior is nice but a but lacking in character. It's a very clean and well maintained American stlye hotel, don't expect it will be a quaint Roman boutique hotel. The rooms are nice. Small but well furnished and modern. Looks just like the picture but a bit smaller. Our room had an awful view of the run down courtyard. Our window was also literally right next to a service elevator. However, the room had one major problem, noise! Everymorning we were woken up at 8am by the awful noise of the maids dragging the beds on the tiles of other rooms, it was terrible. Then on the last morning we were woken up by really loug drilled noises from the courtyard. We also heard when people flushed the loo and everything anyone said. The noise is pretty bad actually. The staff was hit or miss. Most of the staff were helpful but a couple of the girls working at the front desk had attitude problems. However, the manager made it up to us for the all the noise during the stay so I have to say that was good customer service. However, when he was speaking to me the two girls were laughing. The breakfast is decent. You have a big option so you're bound to find something you like. The eggs and bacon are pretty bad though. Overall, it's a good hotel and for the price it's an amazing deal. I wouldn't say it's 4 star but about 3.5. However, I have to say it is the best hotel in Rome when it comes down to value for money. Nothing else in the price range is anywhere near as good. For this price, you can't expect it to be perfect.
