Great service and amenities

posted May 23, 2012

We arrived late at night after a long flight. Several staff members were present and were very helpful. This was our first visit to HongKong but we knew it would be hot, crowded and noisy. However, our room was peaceful, cool and spacious and with excellent toiletries. Due to renovations. the free WiFi was located in Breezes lounge. It was aptly named, with open sides which allowed the breeze to flow late at night. They also provided free bottles of water for use. We stayed there for 4 nights and as our next flight was not until midnight they happily stored our luggage after we checked out. They even provided shower facilities for us when we came to collect our luggage (very necessary after a day of Hong Kong heat). Overall we were very happy with our stay at this lovely hotel.

Poor Service and Not Very Clean

posted May 20, 2012

I stayed two nights at the Lan Kwai Fong Hotel recently and the poor service and unclean conditions that I encountered ensure that my next stay in Hong Kong will be elsewhere. A few points and a quick anecdote to explain. 1) The carpet in the room was filthy. 2) The silverware in the room (with the fruit basket) was caked with goo from some previous user. 3) The bar/lounge was closed indefinitely and without notice. In addition to these more minor inconveniences, the staff were untrained and irresponsible. When leaving the hotel, I was told that I could wait for the free shuttle bus in the waiting room next to the reception area. However, upon emerging 15 minutes later to ask where the bus was, I was told that I had just missed it and no one knew that I was waiting (despite the reception staff who had asked me to wait being present). The staff were then helpful enough to suggest that I wait for the next bus six hours later. When I suggested that this was ridiculous, the staff told me to take a taxi. Only after I demanded to see a manager did the staff suggest that perhaps the hotel would pay for a taxi for me. Avoid this place.

Great service and stunning views

Stayed three nights, arrived early Thursday morning. Room ready to check into which was fantastic. On the 26th floor with views of Kowloon. Staff were excellent. We had been informed in advance that upgrade work was in progress but we didn't experience any inconvenience and you would hardly know it was happening. Breakfast good but so many places to eat well and cheaply not necessary to stay in the hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

NEVER EVER STAY IN THIS HOTEL!!!

I just checked into this hotel and the service is appalling. Totally inflexible and their response to every single problem you try to resolve is "No, we can't do anything. This is how it works in this hotel but I will note down your issues." Does this resolve anything? Clearly, they have no intention of improving their service. My main issue now as well, particularly in this time and age where most people travel with a few gadgets on hand that requires wi-fi connection. This hotel firstly does not provide free wi-fi and I do understand some hotels do not, I was willing to pay. But the really appalling thing is the fact that they require you to pay the wi-fi connection for each individual gadget you have even if its in the same room. This could be so easily resolved if all they need to do is waif the charges for my other gadgets as long as I am still paying for one connection in my room. They will not even bother to try and understand the reasoning behind this issue. Surely if you have wi-fi connection at home, you are not going to pay 3 separate bills for all the separate gadgets you would have at home. I would call this daylight robbery. I just checked in and they have already left a bad taste in my mouth within the first hour. On another note, when i took a shower, my head almost hit the ceiling and it was also knocking on the rain shower on top. And I am of average height at 5'9" (175cm). And the air-con is old and noisy. So much for expecting a good nights sleep after a long flight. This is just the first day and definitely expect me to be giving fair updated reviews within the next 4 days of my stay. My suggestion is stay in other hotels and pay more because the charges all add up as they are out to rip you off here while providing non existing or if I'm in a better mood, poor service. I have noticed that the General Manager will respond to all reviews here and surprise surprise, I am sure it will be a whole bunch of nonsense about - " this is hotel policy, this issue has been noted, blah blah blah". So please do not fall for their nonsense. I have stayed in many hotels in Hong Kong, but unfortunately because of the art fair that is going on, many hotels are fully booked. I definitely made a mistake giving this hotel a try. NEVER AGAIN! Stay clear. And I have always pride myself of giving credit where credit is due. This hotel isn't worth the aggravation of dealing with them.

They Give Your Room Away

posted May 6, 2012

In March 2012 I booked and paid in full to stay at the Lan Kwai Fong Hotel in Hong Kong in a room with a harbour view for 29th April, 30th April and 1st May 2012 . After a holiday in Vietnam, on 29th April 2012 I flew from Hanoi to Hong Kong but my plane was delayed because of storms in Hong Kong. At 6pm I telephoned the Lan Kwai Fong Hotel from Hanoi Airport to tell them that I would be late. Eventually I left Hanoi and arrived in Hong Kong at about 1.45am but after completing immigration, customs, baggage reclaim and a long taxi ride it was after 3am when I arrived at the hotel. Immediately on arrival a hotel employee tried to send me away in the taxis I arrived in saying I must stay in the sister hotel because the Lan Kwai Fong was fully book and all the rooms were taken. I did find this a little scary in the middle of the night in a strange city but however I did get out of the taxis and entered the Lan Kwai Fong Hotel determined to get an explanation at the very least. I wanted to know why my room was given away though I booked it and paid for it in March and telephoned the hotel as soon as I knew that my plane was delayed. There was no explanation forthcoming and I received no explanation at any time whilst in Hong Kong though I asked persistently. Because there was absolutely no choice I had to go the sister hotel, the Mercer, there was nothing wrong with the room except the view was of roof tops with washing out completely different to the view that I had paid for. I was told that the room in the Mercer Hotel was superior to the one I booked, I really don't know whether or not it was, but it was not the view I booked. I was offered free WIFI but it was free anyway, I was offered a free minibar but again it was free anyway the only recompense was a limousine to the airport. I was clearly told that there would be no partial refund for all the inconvenience caused by them. I feel that my short stay in Hong Kong was tainted and that it is quite wrong to give away a booked and paid for room also, pretty shady business practises when offering free items that are already free. I cannot recommend this hotel. I have added photos of the view I had instead of the harbour.
