Decent experience, would go back

I have stayed at Cosmopolitan, HK on a few business trips. It is bang opposite happy valley race course. Causeway bay and times square are a walk away. They have cemetary view on one side and race course view on the other. Their standard rooms are quite compact but suites are huge, thereby catering to all budgets. I have observed some veg choices on their menu lately. The breakfast spread is decent. They have wifi internet in the lobby, but room access is paid. Overall a decent hotel with a fine location.

Location not convenient at all...

I stayed two times at the Cosmopolitan. Once almost 4 years ago, and the last time was 10 days ago. Before getting there, I vaguely remembered the location was not convienent and that's why we usually went to another hotel right on Wanchai Road during our getaway weekends to HK. Now, I am 100% sure I will not stay there anymore. 1/ There is not much around at walking distance, to get anywhere you should either take the shuttle bus (which is very convenient, though) or a taxi. 2/ Getting a taxi might take quite some time, I think the location makes it worse during rush hours. I was there mid-may for a wedding and arrived late because we waited for a taxi for more than half an hour. 3/ The service is ok, but I expected a bit more especially while waiting for a taxi with a toddler and a stroller, I wish someone had stepped out to hail a taxi for us. So, no I won't stay at the Cosmopolitan again, because I like to walk around HK and be able to grab a bag of chips right down the hotel.

Slightly Out of the Way

Let’s get this rolling by first bringing up the location. It is not ideal, but it isn’t bad either. You don’t need a taxi to get to the subway station. There is the #15 Bus at the top of the hill that takes you directly to The Peak and Times Square is a 10 minute walk. The Cosmopolitan is right on the corner. You get to see all of the nice cars speed around and squeal the tires as they try to make the light. As for the rooms, this is Hong Kong. If you think you are going to get a room for 100USD a night that is spacious and has a great view click those heels 3 times and come back to reality. The rooms are tiny. We got a “larger” room with an ok view and it was still tight. Most rooms have tiny bathrooms with shower cubical. Ours had a standard shower/tub combo. We were able to see the cemetery from our room. But we were also able to see Happy Valley. We were on the corner in room in what I recall was room 2105. Since this is Hong Kong you try not to spend too much time in the hotel. The location did make it a little difficult to come back and change outfits during the day. It is humid and you do start to sweat. Trying to drop off stuff from shopping was a hassle as well. Carrying the bags on the trains at rush hour was not the greatest idea, but that was our only option if we were to make the dinner reservations we had. My wife wanted me to let you ladies know, if staying at the Cosmopolitan do not wear heels if you are walking to the subway. Just take a taxi to your destination. The streets are uneven and dirty so there is no chance of taking them off if your feet get tiered. There is a reason all of the Chinese women are wearing flats. When you are going out make sure to ask the concierge or front desk the best options. We saved a lot of time and money with their help. It was nice to have a locals help on where to go and how to get there. All in all the hotel was worth what we paid. It was not spectacular, but it was not a motel either. If you are going on holiday and have a couple of days to see the city and experience the culture by all means stay here. Walking the city helps you get a feel of the cultural differences between the western world and the suto-Asian-Western combo metropolis that is Hong Kong.

Pleasant staff, handy location!

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We have never been to HK before and found it very easy to navigate our way around the city from this location. The hotel is right next to happy valley racecourse and walkable to Times Square/Causeway Bay and the Peak. Taxis are cheap otherwise. Staff were pleasant and helpful and there was good choice at the breakfast buffet. Only downside is rooms are small and fairly basic, and there didn't seem to be enough tables for breakfast so we had to queue a couple of times. But for a reasonable price this hotel provides a good base to see the city.

clean pleasant etc
