Fantastic location! But...

posted May 19, 2012

This hotel has a fantastic location. You are 500 meters near subway (nanjing East station), cross street you are at Nanjing Road, one of most visited streets, and 10 minute walking you are at the Bund. Magnificient. The rooms are quite nice and clean. In the lobby there is an exchange machine, where you can exchange at any time. We didn't try breakfast or dinner, because we are european, and prefered outside. The only thing that was very unpleasant, was that someone tried to open my luggage. Happily it was well locked, and couldn't get throught. I was very sad, hw can this happen in such a nice hotel, with good service and fantastic location, and stars? It shouldn't! So, if you stay here, just lock well your luggage, and you'll find it nice choice. About the distance to world financial center, Jin Mao Tower, Pearl Tower,... Just take the subway: 1 stop! To go to the french concession, 2 stops, to get the maglev to the airport 6th stop. Very good location indeed. Even the "bad experience", we still thing you should try it.

Central Hotel great access to East Nanjing Road

posted May 11, 2012

We stayed at the Central after spending a couple of weeks in Hangzhou. It was modern and comfortable. Its an easy walk to all the main attractions of Shanghai. The bathroom had a funky smell and we did have problems with our bill through Expedia but it was cleared up immediately. The staff was nice and the breakfast buffet is recommended, if you want North Amercian style. Ask for a high room for a view. The hotel looks nice at night with all the colored lights. Good value

Excellent

The location is even more central than the name suggests, just a few steps from Nanjing Road, 2 blocks from the subway station Nanjing East (with lines 2 and 10 going to both airports and Hongqiao Railway Station) and Peoiple's Square. Clean, comfortable, high quality breakfast, kind staff (even though not always well trained to give information on transports). Rooms are quiet, well-insulated from noise.

Fantastic hotel, great value, and great location

posted April 2, 2012

We stayed here last week, we had a perfect stay! The hotel offers great service, over and above standard service! We ordered red wine from room service but they said they were out of stock, but went to the nearest market and bought us two bottles, bear in mind this was at 23.25pm! Rooms we average sized for a chinese hotel, but very well equipped (5 star standard) We enjoyed lovely food in the restaurant, which was reasonably priced. The location is a great base for exploring the city, 20 mins walk to the Bund, metro line station close by. This hotel should be a 5 star hotel, as I have stayed in the Westin on the Bund, and this is much better!! I will stay here again.

Good Value, Great location

posted January 7, 2012

Just stayed for 4 nights at this hotel Jan 1through 4th 2012. It was excellent for a 4 star hotel. My family and I had stayed at 4 Chinese hotels--all rated 4 star, and this was the best. Others were not bad---just not as nice as this one...Rooms were clean, great linens, bath had large tub and a separate shower stall. Our room on the 19th floor overlooked Nanjing Road east. The people in all areas of the hotel were kind, friendly, and tried very hard to please. The breakfast on the 10th floor was also excellent. There was a chef handy to make omelets, fried eggs, etc. There were cereals, fresh fruits, juices, many Chinese dishes that I did not taste-- The lobby bar was a pleasant place to sit in the late afternoon and rest-up with a drink, or tea, or whatever.....The reception desk was extremely friendly, and helpful. I would definitely stay here again if I get back to Shanghai...
