They say Othon used to be the best hotel in town for many years, but, truth is, not everyone is lucky enough to age gracefully. The whole downtown area has gone decadent and it shows. Lobby and rooms could use a redecoration, since the 80´s are long gone. Since they target conventions and business people, most guests won´t mind being removed from the hip areas of BH. Although location and style are minuses, crew is efficient and food is quite good. Their breakfast is superb. Some rooms get a nice view of the park. On sundays, there´s a great crafts fair right by the hotel. If you need to grab a bite, Benzadeus just close by is a great option.

I don't know if all the rooms are the same size, but mine was huge. The hotel is old. It's 70's style. It feels like you're in a James Bond movie. It's in front of Afonso Pena avenue and a beautiful city park. I loved the view. The breakfast was also good. If you're going to downtown Belo Horizonte, the location is perfect. There's just about everything within walking distance, including a mall ("Shopping Cidade"). The taxi from the Confins Airport costs about R$ 90.

The location is excellent. The municipal park across the hotel was a good excuse to do the morning walks. The service was ok. The check in was smooth but the check out was not. Getting to have some one take notice to "english" Vs people speaking "portugese" was a challenge. Food at breakfast was not great. We were disappointed on the choices available. The front desk team was helpful. The rooms overlook the main road and the noise is at times disturbing.

Never never never choose this hotel! Terrible experience, I'm pretty sure the Othon palace is the worst place I've ever slept at (hostels included for sure!!!). It is old, dirty, smelly and it doen't feel safe at all! Furthermore this huge, ugly building is in the middle of a crowded street, they don't have rooms with inner view and they have just single glazed windows!!!! It has been the longest night of my life... they should close this hotel and totally rebuild it!
