The only reason I gave this hotel a 3 instead of 2, was because of the breakfast. It was very nice and deserved a star for it. The price...what can I say...they were a ripoff. I booked online with a group booking and was told that this was a cheap price. When we got to the hotel, we found that if you had just gone to the hotel directly to get a room, it would have been 40 euros cheaper. They refused to let us cancel our booking to take the cheaper option -.-" Anyhow, the room: it is just completely lousy for the price that we paid. The pillows are lousy. The shower room was crap. After I got to Graz, I realised how wonderful the public transportation system was, and really wished that I booked another hotel along Tram Line 1, which would bring you to all the great places such as Mariatrost, Schloss Eggenberg, Jakominiplatz, etc. My advise is NOT to book this hotel, and get something else along Tram LIne 1 which will probably give you better value for money. The only thing worthwhile in this hotel is its breakfast.

This hotel is making great efforts to be funky and should be respected for that, it certainly is. But it is Important however to not lose the plot: we had a hilarious time. We did not want the allocated room which looked out only onto a wall and scaffolding. Our new room was pricier, very funky, as in no plaster on walls, very white and spacious and cool. Not just cool however, it was cold. Plus the shower overflowed all over the wooden floor, there was one 70s armchair, no chairs or desk or any other furniture at all - except two beds and three hangers - and no bedside lights. The staff were extremely helpful however, the beds were cosy and comfy, there were binoculars on the wall, and the sauna and steam room were great! The hotel breakfast was possibly the best I have ever had, amazing. They just need to get the basics right. Perfectly situated to see Graz and certainly will provide you with an interesting time.

The outside and the lobby might make you think you just got a great deal on a fancy hotel. Once you leave the lobby area and take the elevator to find your room, which could be quite a hike, you will see this is not the case. Everything behind the lobby facade is old and shabby. I can't speak for the better rooms, but we had a "casual" room. It was small but adequate. The bed was comfortable, the tv and internet worked. It was fine as a place to sleep and keep your stuff but I wouldn't want to stay in there long. The staff were nice, especially the barman who is Hungarian. He kept the bar open late more than once for us to have a couple of extra drinks. You can also smoke inside, which is awesome if you smoke. The location is perfect. You can't really get anymore central, close to everything. It's on the main drag along the river so it's easy to find. They have a restaurant but we never ate there. There is a cafe next door but they don't accept credit cards which I found funny. We usually bought food at the grocery store and ate breakfast and lunch in our room. One more point about the location, especially if you have kids with you: the road in front of the hotel is a very nice, touristy road with nice buildings and people on bicycles. BUT the road BEHIND the hotel is very seedy, lined with slimy-looking night clubs and strip clubs and one old dilapidated "peep show" place which appeared to be closed. If you don't care about that, then this road is best for going down to where the supermarkets and other shops and restaurants are. There is also a main bus stop there. This appeared to be an area mainly occupied by immigrants: Turkish kebab shops, that sort of thing. Seemed like it might be a bit sketchy at night. Anyway, I would recommend this hotel in general, as a cheap, okay place to stay. And Graz is a very nice city, worth a visit.

We here for just one night on a 4 night roadshow to Austria. I had a room that was larger than the rest of the group and even had a lounge area. Very small elevators and there are stairs along the way so if traveling with large heavy bags it can be difficult. Great location and restaurant/bar area. The function areas were perfect for what we needed and for the limited time we were there it suited our needs.

I'll admit that I have never stayed at this hotel because I live in this city, but if you stay there, you will not have to go far for excellent and reasonably priced food and drink. The hotel's restaurant, "Der Steirer" is right downstairs and serves typical Austrian fare, much of it locally sourced. There is also a very good selection of wines. And if you want coffee afterwards, or in between times, go to the adjoining coffee shop for excellent coffee including very authentic Turkish coffee and good desserts that are not fancied up but taste like Grandma's and are extremely satisfying. Lots of people who are not hotel guests go to the restaurant and coffee shop. The coffee shop is classic for local writers, artists, opinion leaders, etc. But nonetheless a really good atmosphere for just normal folks.
