Hi, We have stayed here on a few occasions when we have an early flight. The hotel seems to be getting a little tired decor wise. Service was fine but could have been better. Room was clean and large and had everything we needed. Previously we did not have to pay $6 each way for a shuttle service, this time we did. A free shuttle service would be great. We had to wait nearly 1/2 and hour for the shuttle from the airport to the hotel, we could have walked there and back twice in that time. On saying that it is still the best location for an early flight out.

Chose this hotel due to proximity of airport and my office. Arrived very early (6am) and was pleasantly surprised to find that the room was ready and I didn't get charged a day rate. Reception staff helpful & friendly. Room / bathroom good size, comfy bed etc. Wifi not free and the charges are exorbitant so didn't bother. Gym functional, but what this restaurant really lacks is a decent restaurant. The breakfast buffet was ok, nothing more & it's a buffet for everything including coffee, which means if you get behind a huge coach load of tourists you can wait ages for a drink. The evening menu is static and poor and the service in the bar (AV8) is appalling. By adding a decent restaurant where the staff actually want to serve you this hotel would improve a lot.

Booked a "free upgrade to deluxe room & late 1pm checkout" via a promotion online. On arrival at the hotel was told no deluxe rooms were available with 2x beds. Instead we would be downgraded for no cost (they had a little chuckle when saying that). Wasn't a big deal breaker for me.. these things happen.. however they put us on level 10 directly below a floor that was being refurbished. Till 10pm at night there was constant hammering, which started again at 7am in the morning. I can handle the late night work, but what's the point of a late check-out if you can't even sleep in? Speaking to reception all they did is shrug their shoulders and say "yeah.. we've got some renovations being installed and can't really help all the noise". Horrible customer service and no regard to customer comfort. Have had no complaints staying here in the past and the rooms are of excellent quality, it's normally an amazing hotel.. pity the service was lacking this time around.. Stay away from this hotel during the current renovations unless you want a sleepless night. Would have hated to be here on business or jet-lagged after a long flight and really have needed solid sleep.

Booked the Stamford online for an overnight break after a long haul flight from the UK. We had a domestic flight home the next day and wanted to be close to the terminal. Stamford was probably close enough to walk to the domestic terminal, although we paid $6 each for a rather tatty old shuttle bus. Check in friendly and welcoming, and we received an upgrade to a top floor larger room, which was a nice gesture. Room was extremely comfortable, quiet and had only just been refurbished. Found the large king bed also very comfortable. Only minor disappointment was the slightly overpriced buffet breakfast. The continental breakfast at $20.00 has a very limited variety of food, with dreadfull tea and coffee coming from an automated machine. Noticed on leaving that there is a coffee shop to the right of the hotel entrance. Mayby worth trying there for a cheaper breakfast option. Overall though, excellent airport hotel with great service and very comfortable rooms.

The Stanford is a good choice of hotel if you are looking for accommodation in near proximity to Sydney Airport. It is in walking distance of the domestic terminals (albeit that if you are carrying a few bags you would be better off catching a shuttle bus or a taxi). The hotel is reasonably well appointed. The rooms are large and in my view more than adequate with modern TV, comfortable large bed with the bathroom facilities being pleasant. The building itself is older and whilst it is obvious that some renovations have taken place over the years, it is not on par with a 5 star hotel which may be fairly new or extensively renovated. The good points for me were the very friendly reception and concierge staff. They seemed to go out of their way to be helpful. Another good point was the attached AV8 bar which served reasonably priced meals. As a downside, I thought the cost of food at the hotel itself was terribly overpriced. $28 for a continental breakfast, $34 for a hot or $39 for a combination of the continental and hot delivered to the room is daylight robbery. For a family of 4 that equates to a minimum of $112 for a juice, a piece of fruit, a bowl of cereals, a couple of pieces of toast and a coffee. Breakfast in the restaurant isn't much cheaper. The Stanford also applies a 1.5% surcharge to credit card transactions - another great little add on money earner. I always find it surprising that general retailers and restaurants don't often charge these surcharges whereas airlines, large hotels and hire car companies do - they only do because they can get away with it with a somewhat captured market. I would be amazed if the bank interchange rate for visa/mastercard for the Stanford was actually 1.5%. All in all though a good choice of hotel especially if you are in transit for a day or two. Look out for a discounted rate on internet website. I would have rated this hotel as 4 star (very good), if it were not for the cost of breakfast and the credit card surcharge)
