Amsterdam

Urban vs Nature

Amsterdam - that most eclectic of European capitals.

On the one hand there is cultural, colourful Amsterdam. On the other, magnificent country estates and seaside resorts just a short drive away. With WORLDHOTELS in and out of the city, you can explore the best of both worlds.

It has 76km of canals, 7,000 historic buildings, over 60 museums and endless bicycles. With WORLDHOTELS strategically located around the city, you have history, culture, great shopping and café society right on your doorstep.

The Grand Hotel Amrâth, from our Deluxe Collection, is located in the Old Centre. This luxurious hotel inhabits the Shipping House, lights in the Wellness Spa, and enjoy delicious French cuisine in the Seven Seas restaurant. Near Centraal Station, the hotel is well placed for the key historic sites: the main square, the Dam; the Oud Kerk (Old Church); the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) and Royal Palace; and the lively square of Nieuwmarkt.

If you’re seeking tranquillity, check into the Bilderberg Garden Hotel from our First Class Collection. Located in the green and pleasant South Amsterdam, it is right next to the lively Vondelpark and a short walk to the Museum Quarter. The rooms are a perfect retreat after a day’s sightseeing and shopping: spacious and luxurious, they have super-swish bathrooms and satellite television.

If you’ve brought your work along, stay in the executive suite. Reached by its own private lift, the suite has a roomy workstation, wi-fi and jacuzzi. De rigueur is an eight-course ‘amuse diner’ at the hotel’s De Kersentuin restaurant: a gastronomic feast of French cuisine with a dash of Mediterranean flavours. Great shopping and café culture is nearby on the Beethovenstraat, and the Concertgebouw concert hall, Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum are just a stroll away.

Magnificent Country estates and seaside resorts

The countryside and coast are just a short drive away. Go west and within 20 minutes you will reach the Zuid Kennermerland National Park, where the Duin & Kruidberg Country Estate is located. Originally two estates, one of which was a royal bolthole, this Deluxe Collection property has a fairytale setting, fronted by a pond and surrounded by parkland and landscaped gardens.

A grand country house, the hotel has English and Rococo interiors and guest rooms adorned with paintings and objets d’art. Hit the gym, relax in the Finnish sauna or walk to the Spaarnwoude recreational area where you can ride, cycle, canoe and play golf. There are also beaches nearby. The hotel’s à la carte restaurant serves French and Mediterranean food teamed with an award-winning wine list.

Alternatively, head for Rijnland, further down the coast. This is a scenic region of flowerfields, pretty villages and stylish seaside resorts such as Noordwijk. Here, you’ll find the Hotels van Oranje. This Deluxe Collection property comprises two interconnecting hotels. The Hotel Oranje has classic rooms with every creature comfort, and executive suites with a private seafront terrace. The Beach Hotel has contemporary-style rooms, some with sea views.

Relax in the Aqua & Sauna Oranje, where you can swim in the subtropical wave pool, take a massage or submit to a luxurious La Prairie facial. There are four restaurants offering everything from gastronomic dining to a quick bite. The hotel can organise horse riding, tennis and golf in and around Noordwijk, and the nearby town of Leiden, with its 12 museums, historic buildings and scenic canals, is definitely worth a trip.
